TRYING SOMETHING NEW

I’ve been relatively thin my entire life. Freshman year I did the whole “freshman fifteen” gain but it doesn’t really show much when you’re 5’10”. Lately however, I’ve been missing the feeling of being athletic. In high school I was a three sport athlete and now I’m lucky if I occasionally run in the summer. This fall I decided I wanted to spend some time in the gym so I started an intramural volleyball team. Our team was pretty good and ever since volleyball has ended I’ve been missing the gym atmosphere.

BUT THE REAL QUESTION IS… WHAT DO YOU DO IN THE GYM?

When I go to the gym I head straight up to the treadmills. I stretch for a bit and then usually run about a half hour. Afterwards I cool down and try to muster the bravery to go into the weight room. Upon entering the weight room I feel slightly helpless and a little alarmed. There’s always huge football guys grunting and some athletes doing some routine that looks super intense. I usually glance around and pick a machine that doesn’t look too much like torture equipment. After a few reps I meander over to the next not-scary looking machine. My real goal is to end up on the side of the weight room with the free weights but I usually chicken out because honestly… I have no idea what to do with them. I have no routine.

SO ANYWAY… THIS WEEK WILL BE DIFFERENT. I have found a pretty sweet website called “Fit Girls Diary” and it will (hopefully) give me some gymspiration.

I’m also going to try to eat 100% clean this week too. (WHICH WILL BE REALLY HARD.) I am letting myself get 1 chai latte per day because I would probably go through severe withdrawl symptoms without at least one.

So that’s my goal for the week! I’ll keep ya’ll updated!

  1. I don’t go to the gym often, but when I do I typically run around the track a few times. I feel too much like a hamster on treadmills. My favorite place to exercise is outside experiencing nature, without any means of tracking progress or distance.
